TimesUpKidz isn't telling my child how much time is left
Symptoms
When you child uses the computer, he/she does not hear or see any reminders
telling them how much time is left. The TimesUpKidz alarm clock icon might not
be visible.
Causes
Reminders do not appear if:
- Your 30-day free trial has expired and you have not yet purchased the program
- No time limits have been set for that specific child
- You are logged on to a parent's account and no time limits have been set for the parent
- Time limits were set while your child was logged on to their Windows user account
- Someone removed the "TimesUpKidz Reminders" program from the
Startup folder on the Windows Start menu.
- Other parental control software is preventing the "TimesUpKidz Reminders"
program from running
- Your child stopped the TimesUpKidz reminder program via the Windows Task Manager
- The computer volume is muted or your child has chosen to disable the audible
reminders
Solution
Reminders do not appear if your free trial
has expired. To find out if your free trial has expired, start TimesUpKidz. Look
on the left side of the main window to find out how many days are left. If you
don't see a message there, that means you've already purchased the program.
Reminders will not appear for a particular child if no limits have been set
for that child. Make sure time limits have been set for your child
by starting TimesUpKidz, selecting the child's name, and viewing the time limits.
If you don't see any time limits, set them now.
The alarm clock icon and associated reminders are typically not visible when a parent is logged on to their user account because usually parents do not have any time limits.
Even if limits have been set for a particular child, the reminders may not appear if limits were
set while your child was already logged on to their Windows account. Ask your child
to choose Log Off from the Start menu or restart the computer. When your child logs back on, reminders
should appear.
Make sure the TimesUpKidz Reminders program is in the Startup folder on the
Windows Start menu. If you don't see it there, either someone removed it or the
installation program didn't work properly. To fix it, uninstall TimesUpKidz
using the Add/Remove Programs section of the Windows Control Panel. Then install
the "free trial" again from this web site. Then read
how to prevent kids from tampering with TimesUpKidz.
If you are using other parental control software that can restrict the programs
your child uses, such as the "Application Restrictions" part of Windows Vista/7 Parental
Controls, make sure your child has the power to run the "TimesUpKidz Reminders"
program. The program can be found in C:\Program Files\Rain City Digital
LLC\TimesUpKidz\TimesUpKidzReminders.exe
Your child has the power to kill/stop the reminder program via the Windows Task
Manager. But even if the reminder program is stopped, time limits are still
enforced. You can manually start the program again by having your child log off
and then log back on to their Windows user account. Or choose "TimesUpKidz
Reminders" from the Startup folder on the Windows Start menu.
Make sure the computer volume is not muted. To change the volume, have your
child log on and click the
speaker icon in the Windows taskbar near the clock.
Your child can manually turn on or off the audible reminders by right-clicking
on the TimesUpKidz alarm clock icon near the time on the Windows task bar.
